a community vision

In the journey towards a more vibrant, community orientated and economically robust Rangiora Town Centre there is strong need for creativity, ideas, drive and involvement. It is vital for any strategy for progress to carry with it the support of those who the progress will most affect. This ‘community-centred’ approach to the strategy is vital to its success.

The Rangiora Town Centre Strategy began with a community workshop on 13 October 2009, where those people who live, work and do business in the Town Centre were invited to contribute their ideas and suggestions for the Town Centre’s future.

From there a steering group has been formed comprising representation from the community, the Rangiora Ward Advisory Board and the Waimakariri District Council. RTC2020 has begun. On this website we’ll update all progress and give you the chance to offer your ideas, suggestions and opinions.

so what now?

We are currently drafting the strategy document which will among other reports and studies, consider the submissions we received on the Issues and Concepts Paper. The strategy document will then be presented to the Council in September this year. Shortly, we will also kick off implementation planning so we can begin to make some positive changes to the Rangiora Town Centre, following adoption of the Strategy.

you had your say on issues and concepts

Between the end of May and end of June 2010, the Council sought feedback on the RTC2020 Issues and Concepts Paper. We wanted to hear your views on the future of Rangiora Town Centre.

We received a total of 76 submissions, most of which showed great enthusiasm for the concepts and ideas proposed for the future of Rangiora Town Centre. Overall, it is clear you want Rangiora Town Centre to be great now and for the future - you want a town centre that is functional, compact with a rural atmosphere and attractive.
